Diarists' Workshop

creative writing workshops The Diarists'
Workshop
Creative Journaling
and Personal Development

One of the best workshop/classes I've taken of any kind.
- Peter Kempf

Classes at the Diarists' Workshop are fun, get you writing and nurture the search for your inner voice. Charlene's teaching style is engaging and each student receives the personal attention expected of an intimate gathering. There are classes for beginner and experienced diarists, and no one will be asked to read from his/her journal.

CLASSES WITH CHARLENE GEISS

LET'S BEGIN:
BETWEEN THE LINES

There are as many ways to keep a journal, as there are people. Although diarists write to record their lives, heal psychic wounds, or plan for the future, there are no hard-core rules. However, there are techniques that provide greater insights and assist in better articulating thoughts and feelings. In this workshop students practice eleven journaling techniques that will benefit the experienced diarist who is stuck in a rut of repetitive themes or the beginner who is faced with the seemingly endless blank pages of a book.

6 sessions twice a month Thursday 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Sept. 4, 18, Oct. 2, 23, Nov. 6, 20,
$195: includes Inner Outings

WRITE ON

The Oracle of Apollo's inscription reads, "Know thyself." Simple and clear as the command may be, for most of us the suggestion is a life's work. This class is for those who have studied the writing techniques with Charlene and want to practice what they have learned to continue the journey of self-discovery and healing. Learn to better articulate thoughts, feelings, and actions. Discover new pathways to more provocative entries while benefiting from the support, stimulus, and discipline of a journaling group.

Fridays, Aug. 29 - Oct. 3, 11:00 - 12:30 p.m,
6 Sessions $130.00

POETIC JOURNALING
WITH JUDY MORSE

Ink runs from the corners of my mouth
There is no happiness like mine.
I have been eating poetry.
-Mark Strand

Would you like to add the taste of poetry to your journaling? You need not consider yourself a poet to enjoy this class. We will explore some time- proven poetic "forms" that will help you turn your love for words into poetry. You will learn the Cento and Found Poem, the Cinquain and a touch of Haiku. We will also play with the Pantoum, Villanelle and Sestina. Don’t let these terms scare you; they are just old friends you haven’t yet met.

Sundays, Oct. 5 - 26, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.
4 Sessions for $110.00 includes Unbroken Line by Miriam Sagen

Judy Morse is an experienced diarist, teacher and published poet.

VISUAL JOURNALING

Visual journals are a journey of discovery: a chance to record one's deepest feelings about events, relationships, nature and the meaning of place. As a witness to one's life through the act of creation something larger than the mind takes over. A person discovers a new way of understanding that feels magical. Lisa's class inspires one to slow down, look closer, and create. One does not need any artistic talent to create a beautiful illustrated journal, only lots of enthusiasm.

5 sessions for $130 includes materials

Tuesdays, Nov. 18 - Dec. 9, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
