BETWEEN THE LINES: BEGINNING WITH CHARLENE
There are as many ways to keep a journal, as there are people, or specifically, diarists. Although diarists write to record their lives, heal psychic wounds, or plan for the future, there are no hard-core rules. However, there are techniques that provide greater insights and assist in better articulating one's thoughts and feelings. In this workshop students practice eleven of these journal-writing techniques and many visual methods that will benefit the experienced diarist who is stuck in a rut of repetitive themes, or the beginner who is faced with the seemingly endless blank pages of a book. No talent for writing or art is necessary to have your journal bulging with exciting pages!
Six Tuesdays,
June 23 - July 28 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.,
$185.00: includes a copy of Inner Outings: Diarist Deck and Book of Exploration

CLASSES WITH OTHER FACULTY
THE LAST GIFTS: CREATIVE WAYS TO BE WITH THE DYING
I don't believe people are afraid of death. What they are afraid of is the incompleteness of their lives.
--Ted Rosenthal
In this workshop Jillian suggests ways to creatively engage with the dying and help them meet their final goals, while giving you an emotional map of how to be truly helpful. Whether you know someone who is dying now or not, learn ways to be more present and comfortable, listen more fully, and get in touch with your own values. When you spend time with someone who is dying, you learn immeasurably about yourself. As our population ages, the information provided in this workshop is essential. If you think being with someone who is dying is depressing, you're in for a surprise. It is awe-inspiring!
Jillian Brasch is a registered occupational therapist who has provided direct care for hospice patients, led bereavement support groups, and taught art classes for AIDS patients. Her first book is The Last Gifts.
4 Wednesdays, 4:00-5:30 pm, June 3-24.

POETIC JOURNALING I
Ink runs from the corners of my mouth
There is no happiness like mine.
I have been eating poetry. --Mark Strand
Would you like to add the taste of poetry to your journaling? You need not consider yourself a poet to enjoy this class. We will explore some time-proven poetic "forms" that will help you turn your love for words into poetry. You will learn the Cento and Found Poem, the Cinquain and a touch of Haiku. We will also play with the Pantoum, Villanelle and Sestina. Don't let these
terms scare you; they are just old friends you haven't yet met.
Judy Morse is an experienced diarist/teacher and published Santa Fe poet.

For more information about the accommodations and Corsica go to www.lemanoirdebastelica.com, then call Charlene 660-8893
Corsica is located about 100 miles south of Nice, France, and 100 miles west of the Italian Riviera. It is the birthplace of Napoleon. The coastline has white sand beaches and rocky coves. Mountaintops that rise to 10,000 feet dominate the center of the historical island.
Corsica is one of the few unspoiled spots in Europe. In the village of Bastelica, even though it is only 25 miles from the capitol city, Ajaccio, one feels transported to the Middle Ages. Narrow passages meander from neighborhood to neighborhood. The many mountain streams and waterfalls can be heard along with the town's chickens and goats. Living is slow and harmonious. The cathedral bell marks the time.
Babette's Le Manoir is a semi-fortified lodge built for a count in 1509 in the picturesque mountain village of Bastelica. The house is a romantic four-story, stone structure, complete with chestnut beams and turret staircase. Babette sister, chef Silvianne, prepares your healthy country French cuisine.
Charlene Geiss will present the days journal lesson under a canopy of trees in a garden of jasmine, mint, and Corsican maguis. After the main meal of the day, the afternoon is yours to continue to journal, hike, read, take photographs, or simply relax. In the evening there will be an assortment of optional activities. Two days will find us on an excursion to the city of Ajaccio, Capo de Feno (beach), the ruins of Filotosa, and the magical medieval city of Bonifacio.
Your guide and teacher, Charlene Geiss, with a M.A. in Education, is an experienced teacher who will take you on a memorable inner and outer journey to places that will inspire, nurture, and heal. She is the co-author and artist of Inner Outings: The Diarist's Deck and Book of Exploration and is one of the featured diarists in Signatures: The Art Journal Collection and the 2004 Art Journal Calendar. In the spring of 2008 she released her first DVD, Creative Journaling with Charlene Geiss.
